My target bird this morning at Estero Llano Grande State Park was Purple gallinule. They are an uncommon summer resident in Hidalgo County. After walking around most of the ponds I thought I was out of luck but then found this guy feeding along Ibis pond. I finally got this poor pic of him in a mesquite.
Not much else going on. The small egret rookery was busy.
